20 Shetland Sheepdogs To Follow On Instagram

Shetland Sheepdogs are more commonly refferred to as Shelties.

They’re a relatively small breed that won’t grow to a height more than 16 inches and weigh more than 25 pounds.

Shetland Sheepdogs are ranked as the 25th most popular dog breed in the USA, according to the American Kennel Club.

Shelties can often be confused for a smaller sized Rough Coated Collies.

Hailing from the rocky Shetland Islands, the United Kingdom’s northernmost point, Shelties were used to herd sheep, ponies, and poultry.

The Shetland Sheepdog has over 1.5 million posts on the photo-sharing app.

Meet Airin (@sheltie_airin), a five-year old Shetland Sheepdog living in the Czech Republic. Airin is great at agility, loves to learn new tricks and enjoys travelling.

Dexter (@sheltiedexter) is a Shetland Sheepdog living in Middletown, New Jersey. This five-year old Sheltie enjoys life one treat at a time. Now that’s a motto that all dogs should live by. Dexter has an adorable Alaskan Klee Kai friend called Luna that looks just like our Klee Kai, Copper.

Barney (@sheltie_barney) is a four-year old Sheltie living in Germany. He works as a therapy dog at school. When he’s not working as a therapy dog, Barney is the perfect dog model.

We’re back in Norway to meet Hugo and Ask (@sheltieadventures). They’re living their best lives in the fjords and mountains of this Nordic country. These two Shetland Sheepdogs love to explore the world.

We’ve spent a lot of time in Europe but now we’re heading to Canada. Bolt and McFly (@sheltie.adventures) love to go on adventures in this vast country. Described as two Canadian beauties, they love to agility and training.

Back to Germany to meet Emmi (@shetlieemmi). She’s based in Hamburg but loves to explore this European hub. Her mum Jana explains that Emmi was a Christmas dog. Her big personality and beautiful photos have earned this Sheltie a following of over 10,700.

Yet another German-based Sheltie takes the number eight spot on this list. Yuma (@sheltie_yuma) is a tricolor Shetland Sheepdog who can be found posing amongst an array of different wild flowers in the German countryside. Yuma has a four-legged equine companion called Lucky.

7) Yoda, Jaime and Irmo (@sheltie.liebe)

It’s time to meet Yoda, Jaime and Irmo (@sheltie.liebe). Their profile has a fun description of these three Shelties that we’ve translated from German: From life with a Jedi master, a domesticated woolly creature and a growing pirate. This trio of Shetland Sheepdogs have over 15,000 followers.

6) Bobby (@thebobster_sheltie)

Bobby (@thebobster_sheltie) is also know as the travelling Sheltie. We’ve left Germany but we’ve only gone as far as Vienna. This Austrian-based Sheltie likes to travel the world, proudly declaring that he’s peed in Austria, Canada, Hungary, Croatia, Italy Poland and Czech Republic. That’s quite a CV!

5) Denise (@photopassionnet)

Next up we’ve got an award-winning Swiss photographer called Denise (@photopassionnet). She won the Kennel Club’s photo of the year in 2019. When she’s not photographing dogs around Europe (including helloBARK!’s Alaskan Klee Kai Copper and Skye), Denise likes to photograph her Sheltie called Sunnie.
