The ability to monitor your dog when it is left home alone can make a big difference to the lives of pet parents.
It can be a daunting and stressful experience to leave your dog at home unsupervised.
Some dogs suffer from seperation anxiety which can result in excessive barking and howling.
Other pups can get up to no good, whether it is chewing the furniture or digging in potted plants.
A dog camera can give pet owners the chance to speak to their furry friend and encourage good behaviour.
In this review, we will take a close look at Zmodo Wi-Fi Camera. We will examine what specs the device has, the customer reviews and whether the product represents value for money.
So let’s get down to business and take a close look at the product.
What is Zmodo Wi-Fi Camera?
Zmodo Wi-FI Camera has a 720p HD WiFi camera with 350 pan and 85 tilt so you can see every corner of the room where this device is installed.
The quality of the video allows dog owners to see a clear and crisp image of their four-legged friend and whether there’s cause for concern.
Using their new Zsight App, you can view, hear, talk back, record and control the camera easily.
This device isn’t marketed towards dog owners but the specifications make it a perfect alternative for pet parents.
It’s a middle-of-the-range option for those who don’t want to pay a premium price for a dog camera.
However, this economical option is lacking some of the features helloBARK! likes to see included with such a device.
So let’s take a look at what Zmodo Wi-Fi Camera can offer pet parents.
Unfortunately the device doesn’t come with a treat dispenser. So you will be unable to reward your dog for good behaviour.
However, as this isn’t marketed as a dog or pet camera, it is difficult to penalise Zmodo too much.
HD speaker and Two-way speaker
Zmodo Wi-Fi Camera has 720p video so pet parents will have clear and quality footage of their dog at home alone.
The versatile camera features 350 pan, 85 tilt and 4 times digital zoom to give you full access.
The device has a built-in microphone and speaker which will allow pet parents to hear and talk back using the app. Your voice can help to reassure an anxious pet.
Audio and movement detection
While it doesn’t have audio detection, the device comes with a movement sensor. So if your dog is wandering around looking to cause some mischief, you will receive a push notification.
Another feature that Zmodo Wi-Fi Camera have included is night vision. Pet parents will be able to view up to 26 feet in complete darkness with LED Array.
So you won’t have to stress about rushing home from work during those autumn and winter months safe in the knowledge that you will still be able to see your pet thanks to night vision.
Ease of use
Their profile on Amazon lists the easiest way to set up the device.
Download the free APP, plug the camera into power, choose Smart-Link to add camera and follow on screen guide.
They claim that the camera will be connected to your Wi-Fi before you even noticed anything happened between the camera and your Wi-Fi.
While they state no wires are required, you will need to plug the device into an electrical outlet.
Design and size
The device has a relatively sleek design – with a silver casing and a black camera. The dimensions are 9 x 9 x 14 cm.
Zmodo have updated their model and the price is now $99.99 (USD) on Amazon.com.
It is cheaper than some premium models but there are more budget friendly options if that’s what you’re after.
What people are saying about it
Zmodo Wi-Fi Camera has an average rating of 2.5 out of 5 based upon six Amazon reviews.
The product does have a five-star from an Amazon user who simply wrote: “Perfect”.
One customer was disappointed with the device, having had positive experiences with other Zmodo products:
“Absolute rubbish!!!! I have other Zmodo cameras that are great but this one just kept dropping the WiFi and had to keep resetting it. Most it stayed connected for was 2 days.”
Another dissatisfied consumer gave a one-star review due to problems with the Wi-Fi connection:
“Set it up easy enough and it worked, but then there is always a out of wi fi range error and I can not connect using the free software which gets terrible reviews on iTunes. ”
Looking at the Amazon reviews, Zmodo appear to have some Wi-Fi connection issues that need to be ironed out.
With no treat dispenser or sound sensor, there are some glaring omissions that hold this product back.
While it isn’t marketed as a dedicated pet camera, dog owners may prefer to go for a device with better specs.
Is this the best dog camera?
It has a couple of decent reviews on Amazon but dog parents may prefer to go for a product with far greater testimonials.
For those who have dogs that suffer from separation anxiety, it might be a good idea to go for a device with additional features.

Anything else to consider?
The Zmodo Wi-Fi Camera requires a micro SD card to record video. It supports up to 64GB card which enables to you record continuously for 5-7 days.
As always when SD card is full it will auto erase from earliest record and continue recording.
You can access the video stream from your computer as well as the app on your phone. So if you’re at work with restricted access to your smartphone, you have the option to log via www.meshare.com.
Zmodo Wi-Fi Camera has some good features but it falls short of what helloBARK! would consider to be a good dog camera.
If you’re willing to invest some of your hard-earned cash into purchasing a pet camera, you may be better served going for a premium option to ensure value for money.
