Are you looking for a dog tracker to give you peace of mind?

Whether you’re looking to monitor your dog’s activity, you want to keep track of your pup in your garden or you want to set up a virtual fence for their protection, dog trackers can enhance your ability to take care of your furry friend.

Traditionally, dog trackers were used as a GPS device so you could keep tabs on your dog’s location, something which is especially important if your pup doesn’t have good recall and has a high prey drive.

But these days, dog trackers come with a wide range of features to provide dog owners with lots of tools to make sure their dog is safe and provide the chance to join a community of pet parents who like to stay active.

In this article, we’re going to take a look at the new and improved Tractive LTE GPS Dog Tracker to see the tracker’s new features in comparison to some of their older devices that we’ve previously reviewed.

We’ll take a look at the Tractive LTE GPS Dog Tracker’s features, the price of the tracking device, what other customers are saying about this well-known tracker as well as provide our verdict based upon our test run with the unit.

If you’re a dog owner who likes to use social media, you’ll probably be familiar with the Tractive brand as they’re one of the leading dog tracker companies available on the market worldwide at the moment.

Based in Austria, Tractive achieved worldwide fame thanks in part to their popular Amazon TV show called The Pack, which highlighted some of the useful features of previous Tractive devices as dog owners raced across the world.

Around 34% of pet owners will lost their cat or dog at least once and around 6 million animals enter shelters every year, so that’s why dog trackers can avoid heartache and turmoil by allowing pet owners to monitor their canine or feline’s whereabouts.

Tractive LTE GPS Dog Tracker is their latest offering. With providers around the world deactivating 3g networks, all of Tractive’s new trackers operate on LTE so they work with all major cell phone providers.

This means that we can track our dogs no matter how far away they may be from us thanks to Tractive’s SIM card in the tracker that connects to the closest cell provider to your four-legged friend.

While this is one of the key updates that we have to mention, there’s more exciting features to check out that make this device an excellent and exciting tool for any dog owner.

Tractive LTE GPS Dog Tracker – The Main Points

Tractive LTE GPS Dog Tracker is the company’s lightest dog tracker so far – it weighs just 1.2oz. It’s designed to fit dogs of all shapes and sizes whether you’ve got a Yorkie or a Mastiff.

It’s 100% shockproof and waterproof so it should be able to withstand even the most adventurous of canines who like to make a splash or relish the opportunity to explore rugged terrains.

Unlike previous models, Tractive LTE GPS Dog Tracker has a battery life of up to 14 days so you don’t have to worry about constantly recharging your device. They’ve got power-saving zones that can double or triple battery life.

Once you’ve downloaded the app on your phone, you can access the live map to see where your canine companion is in realtime. You can get updates every 2-3 seconds in LIVE mode.

A great addition in contrast to previous Tractive devices is the inclusion of a light and sound – you can use the app to switch on the device’s light if you can’t spot your dog in the dark or hit the sound button so the device will make a sound and you can locate your pup.

If you’ve lost your dog but you can see on the map that you’re close, the light and sound features will allow you to pinpoint your pet. These are two additions that I feel elevate Tractive LTE GPS Dog Tracker to the next level.

Catching up with other devices that I’ve reviewed, Tractive LTE GPS Dog Tracker allows dog owners to set up a virtual fence to alert you if your dog leaves a particular area and they’ll send another alert if they return.

Finally, there’s a big social element to Tractive where you can see how your dog’s activity rates compared to other dogs in your local area, worldwide and by breed.

How Tractive LTE GPS Dog Tracker Works

It couldn’t be simpler to get started with your Tractive LTE GPS Dog Tracker.

Once you’ve received the device, you’ll need to charge it fully before getting started with the set-up process.

Following a full charge, you can turn on the device and download the Tractive app before following the easy-to-follow steps to set up the LTE GPS dog tracker.

When you’ve activated the device, you can attach it to your dog’s collar and start to get familiar with all the features.

You can set up a virtual fence in your home or your garden before checking out the social features within the app.

Pet owners can keep tabs of their dog’s active minutes, distance travelled and calories burned, which can all help to make sure your canine is happy and healthy.

Our Verdict

Having previously reviewed older Tractive models, I was really impressed by the updates included in the Tractive LTE GPS Dog Tracker.

It’s fair to say that Tractive have added some key features that elevate the device above their rivals to ensure you have a full picture of your dog’s activity and whereabouts.

I really appreciate the addition of sound and light so I can locate my dogs if it’s dark outside and they’re not visible with the naked eye.

The virtual fence is another vital tool and one that came in handy when my dog escaped out the front door and onto the street while I was testing the product. I got the alert and was able to go outside and help my wife catch my dog.

The social feature is also a fun addition that helps both owner and dog to stay fit and encourages more exercise with some friendly competitive spirit.

What Customers Are Saying

Tractive have an average rating of 4.6 stars based upon over 10,000 reviews on independent pet website Trustpilot.

Grant gave the Tractive device a stellar review.

Tractive tracker is the second brand I have used. The first performed ok but battery life was poor, the app was troublesome as was the company to deal with who eventually went out of business. The Tractive tracker is miles above in performance both unit and support. Battery life is very good even here in Canada during the winter. Live function is useful for intercepting wondering dogs. History is good for calculating activity levels.

Kath described the device as a “life saver”.

Absolute life saver! If my dog had not been wearing her Tractive, I may not have caught up with her in time. She was having so much fun chasing a fox and she was in a road when I got to her.

Raymond shared a firsthand experience how Tractive helped him to find his lost dog.

I had lost 2 dogs in the past (I eventually got both back) and it’s pretty stressful trying to find them. With the Tractive I know where my dog is all the time. I took the dog for a walk through a forest area and got separated from him. I looked all over and couldn’t find him. I turned on the live feature on the Tractive app on my cell phone and it led me right to him. He was wearing a harness and he was hung up on a branch sticking up on a fallen tree and couldn’t move. The dog wasn’t barking or making any noise. Without the tracker and being in a forest it would have taken a long time to find him but with the tracker it lead me right to him.

The Tractive LTE GPS dog tracker is priced at $49.99 for US dog owners with a monthly subscription that starts at $6.49. For British pet parents, you can purchase the device for £44.99 with a monthly fee starting at £4 a month.

Any Negatives

To avail of all the features and get the most out of your tracker, you’ll need to sign up to their monthly subscription fee. This may not appeal to some dog owners who don’t want to spend a small fee each month.
