Their website explains that they put together a team of experts, including vets, nutritionists, engineers – and dogs of course – to develop a “super-smart” way to create to a unique recipe for every dog.
Tails can tailor their meals to meet your canine’s specific needs, whether they’re allergic to fish or turkey, they need hypoallergenic grub due to itchy skin or lead an active lifestyle as a working dog.
They state that “the proof is in the kibble” but Tails offer an array of options with regards to wet food as well as dog chews and dog treats.
Not only do they want to keep your dog’s belly happy, the UK company want to help pet parents to get a better understanding of their pup’s diet. They vow to do this by providing great customer service.
While all the marketing hype sounds encouraging, let’s take a closer look at how Tails.com plan to revolutionise your dog’s diet and eating habits.

Pet parents will need to tell Tails key details about their dog to ensure meals are customised to meet the canine’s specific needs. This includes age, breed, size, activity level, body type and potential allergies. Once you’ve submitted the key details, Tails can create your unique recipe.
Their website explains that everything they make is developed by vets and nutritionists to give your dog exactly what they need. They promise “tasty, nutritious and satisfying food” for your precious pooch.
You’ll find your dog’s unique recipe, a handy portion scoop and some helpful instructions in your first box. They’ll outline how to put together the scooper and how much food to feed your dog each day, so you can’t go wrong!
Tails write on their website that their array of options can add variety to your dog’s diet. They’ve got their kibble (which they promise will get your dog’s tails wagging), but Tails provide slow cooked wet food if you want to mix things up.
Unlike other companies that can make it difficult to end a subscription service, Tails promise dog owners that they can cancel at any time and return at any time. They want what’s best for you and your dog.
They’ll deliver your dog’s tailor made food direct to your doorstep every month, leaving it in a safe place on your property or with a neighbour if you’re not in.

It all sounds great so far but we need to check out what recipes Tails have to offer dog parents.
As you enter your dog’s details, Tails will ask you to outline whether your pet has a particular taste for beef, chicken, fish or lamb. Depending on what you enter, Tails will offer a number of different options. This can accommodate fussy dogs who may not like particular flavours.
Tails write online that they can offer the option to combine dry food with wet food to provide your dog with even more flavours. Their wet food options include pates, jellies and gravies using various ingredients.
However, they don’t recommend more than 30 per cent of dog’s daily calories should come from wet food.
They go into great detail in your meal plan to explain how your dog’s tailor-made kibble will meet your canine’s needs in different ways, such as advanced mobility, calorie management and senior care.
You can also input whether your pooch suffers with any health conditions with regards to joints, skin, digestion and more.
Once they’ve put together a meal plan for your dog, you’re able to access a drop down section to see every ingredient that goes into their kibble and/or wet food. Tails can’t be faulted for their attention to detail or transparency.

Tails have made meal preparation very simple.
In your first delivery, you’ll receive a scooper. They’ll provide instructions on how to put together the scooper to ensure you feed your pup the right amount.

The instructions will outline how much food your dog should get every day, whether they’re eating 100 per cent kibble or enjoy a mix of dry and wet food.
Their scooper means that you don’t need to worry about overfeeding your dog, or go to the hassle of getting out weighing scales at dinner time to get the portions just right.
Price And Delivery
Feeding your dog tailor-made meals is going to be a little more expensive than buying big-name brands at the supermarket. While it’s a premium service, it shouldn’t break the bank either.
Tails are competitively priced – but it’s worth remembering that your price is unique to your dog and their needs. So you won’t be able to compare to other dog owners who may be paying more or less.
Having said that, to give you an idea, feeding my two Alaskan Klee Kai a mixture of dry and wet food costs me £57 a month.
You can only buy Tails from their website, which they say means you’ll get great food at great value.
Crucially, delivery is free throughout most of the UK, although some areas aren’t covered. The delivery is flexible so you can change the date or pause the deliveries. If you’re not home, they’ll leave your package in a safe place.

The biggest compliment I can pay to Tails is their attention to detail. I was really impressed with the concise but detailed instructions that came with my Alaskan Klee Kai’s food delivery.
Not only do they provide clear instructions on your feeding plans, but you get a breakdown of all the ingredients in your dog’s food, as well as the potential benefits to your pet.
My dogs were a little picky when eating their kibble (just like they are with most dry food brands) but the wet food proved to be a big hit. They devoured any trace of the pate, jelly or gravy. So it was great to be able to mix it in with the dry food.
I must commend their customer service who were patient and understanding when my dogs were initially slow to take to the dry food. I initially opted for 100 per cent dry food, but upon their suggestion, I received some wet food. This combination helped with the transition to Tails from the previous brand.
To be fair to Tails, although my dogs weren’t the biggest fans of their kibble, judging by the reviews online, they’re the exception to the rule.

Of course, dog food delivery is a premium service so subscribing to these meals isn’t cheap.
I would love to see the addition of home-cooked meals in the future to add to their menu of great options for dogs.
