Whether you’re an experienced dog owner or recently brought your dog home, you’ll likely have heard of raw dog food.

There’s been a notable shift to balanced and complete dog food over the past few years as pet parents ditch kibble in favour of a fresher approach.

Raw dog food can have a lot of potential benefits for your dog but feeding raw can come at a cost – both in terms of price and hassle for dog owners.

However, if you’re convinced raw dog food is the right pet food format for you and your pup, we’ll be taking a close look at one of the leading raw dog food companies in the UK in this article.

Naturaw are one of the brands at the forefront of the “rawvolution” in the UK thanks to their high-quality recipes.

In this review, we’ll be taking a close look at Naturaw and the recipes that they’ve got on offer for British dog owners.

We’ll take a close look at how they source their ingredients, what ingredients are in their recipes, what customers are saying about their food as well as giving our verdict.

So with the introduction over, let’s start our Naturaw review.

Editor's note: It’s important to be aware of the risks associated with raw pet food, as it can be contaminated with harmful bacteria (such as Salmonella, Campylobacter, Listeria and E. coli). The UK government website offers the following advice to pet owners: wash your hands with hot water and soap immediately after handling raw pet food or treats; clean and disinfect all surfaces and utensils that the raw pet food touches; store and defrost raw pet food away from where human food is stored. Young children should not touch or eat raw pet food, as they’re more at risk of illness because their immune system is still developing and they’re more likely to put their hands in their mouth. You can check out the UK government’s guidance in full via this link.

Naturaw believe dogs deserve real food – and that’s why they’ve started the “rawvolution” to ensure British canines are eating a high-quality diet.

They’re a family run company based near York in North Yorkshire who are incredibly passionate about pets and creating the best diet for our four-legged friends.

The creators of Naturaw experienced distress of seeing their dog – Rhodesian Ridgeback Louis – suffering with chronic ear and skin infections but they couldn’t find a diet to soothe the ailment.

However, once Louis started to eat a raw fed diet, they noticed a big improvement. He no longer had itchy skin and wouldn’t constantly shake his head or scratch his ears.

Seeing firsthand the benefits of raw, they decided to launch a raw dog food range in 2015. Naturaw only use high welfare and ethically sourced British meat.

They have teamed up with holistic vet Adele Fitzpatrick who is an advocate for raw dog food diets having seen firsthand the benefits it can bring.

I love Naturaw because they use ethically sourced human grade ingredients, sustainable packaging, they are PFMA approved and they invest time, thinking and finances into producing complete and balanced recipes for our pets!

Naturaw, who became the first raw dog food manufacturer in the world to be awarded B-CORP status, is currently feeding over 7,500 dogs in the UK.

They’ve even installed a huge solar panel system on the roof of their 20,000 sq foot complex in North Yorkshire so their raw food production is powered by renewable energy.

What Raw Dog Food Options Do Naturaw Offer?

Naturaw offer three ranges to British dog owners who are ready to make the switch from store-bought dog food to high-quality raw dog.

The Original Range use veg free mince, made up of high welfare meat, bone and offal.

Naturaw offer a Forage Range that they describe as nutritionally complete raw food. They combine high welfare British meat with exquisite whole food ingredients.

This range could be of particular interest to dog owners who want to ensure their dog gets to enjoy a balanced and complete diet that includes some fruit, vegetables and other whole food ingredients.

They include blackberries, organic kale, organic broccoli, organic seaweed, organic British egg, organic pumpkin seeds, blue mussel, Atlantic mackerel and more.

At the time of writing, Naturaw have three recipes available within their Forage range – Forage: Lamb, Forage: Free Range Chicken and Forage: Beef.

Our Verdict

I’ve got two fussy Alaskan Klee Kai dogs who have high standards when it comes to the food, especially my female mini husky. After years of struggling to find the best food for them, we’ve had a successful stint feeding them fresh dog meals. I’ve previously tried various raw dog food brands but my Alaskan Klee Kai usually refuse to eat it or have a taste before walking away from their bowl.

This wasn’t the case with Naturaw.

I decided to use Naturaw as a tasty topper to compliment their regular food – and it was a resounding success. My dogs loved Naturaw when I decided to see if they’d eat 100% raw. My mini huskies cleared their bowls before ensuring their sibling’s bowl was clean too!

As someone who is passionate about feeding my dogs a high-quality diet, I was reassured by Naturaw’s ethos. I really appreciated that they source high quality meat from ethical and high welfare British farms. We care about the environment like most dog owners so it felt great to feeding Naturaw to my Klee Kai and know that their meals were created in a solar-powered complex. Naturaw believe in complete transparency and each packet of food displays information about the ingredients, analytical constituents and packaging.

I loved their eco-friendly and sustainable approach to their business – the tub is made from natural wood fibres sourced from certified and renewable nordic forests that are carbon positive. The film is made from plants – a mix of cellulose, sugarcane cassava and corn. The liner is compostable and recyclable. Naturaw have eye-catching sleeves that are not only beautiful but created using vegetable-based inks. They’re home compostable and recyclable too.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Naturaw seeing as it passed the taste test in my home and their admirable environmentally-friendly approach.

I have been using this companey for a while now. This is by far the best raw food my dog has ever had and I have had loads. The food is so fresh quality is something else and mostly everything can be composted instead of going into landfill.

Beverley appreciated Naturaw’s values as a dog food company.

Competitive pricing, speedy well packed delivery. The food is a good meaty texture and my dog wolfs it down. Good variety of flavours and there hasn’t been one my dog has not enjoyed. So dog is happy and fed a complete raw dog food. I like the ethical values of the company. Recyclable outer sleeve, compostable food tray, the opportunity to return the sheep’s wool packing and even get money off your next order. Brilliant we are now subscribed for regular deliveries.

Amy hailed Naturaw as an “amazing” company.

Amazing amazing amazing. Wonderful company. Switched my 10 year old dachshund to a raw diet a year ago – best decision I ever made for him. He still looks and behaves like a young pup! I chose Naturaw in particular because of their awesome environmentally friendly packaging and the wool liners you can return for store credit. I couldn’t be happier and recommend Naturaw so often.
