We’ve reached the key part of this comparison article. So who do we recommend? Well, we sent our reviewers Jess and Joe plus their Ragdoll cat Mo some KatKin and Untamed to try. Here’s their feedback:

“KatKin feels the most tailor made and the portions were in line with Mo’s breed and size. The questionnaire was thorough and the leaflet included in the initial delivery was very informative and explained the transitional process. It was a nice touch that Mo’s name was on the delivery box.

“The food was frozen which feels super fresh and the extremely high meat content is evident in the food. Joe and I really liked the chicken sprinkles included in the delivery which we were able to put on top of Mo’s fresh meals. Mo loved the sprinkles and we’d consider buying these as a standalone product.

“The packaging is very slimline and easy to stack in the freezer. We also appreciated that the packaging is recyclable.

“The only cons were the smell when left out of the fridge or freezer for some time. Mo is a slow eater so if the food was left out all day, there would be a smell when we arrived home.

“Untamed came out on top, although it was close. We felt that Untamed is slightly less tailored to your cat but I am aware there is still a questionnaire process. The portions are slightly smaller, so good if your cat also has kibble left out for grazing like Mo.

“We think Untamed has been Mo’s favourite food so far. We also think the portion size for him is better- much smaller than KatKin’s, so a lot less waste. Food looked meaty and appetising. Although it still has some jelly, the jelly is well coated throughout encouraging him to eat more, not just lick the jelly off. There were three flavours in our box, his favourite was the chicken.

“The food comes in tins, so if you have a small freezer, this is the better option for storage. The food is very meaty, you can visibly see shredded chicken and actual shrimps in the food. This went down very well with Mo. Chicken flavour his absolute favourite, good for humans as not very smelly either!

“I would say this is a good hybrid between natural and more processed tin food so the transition was easier for him.”

Overall, Jess and Joe preferred Untamed to Katkin. A big factor was the appearance and smell of the food as well as the convenience of storing Untamed in the cupboard rather than the fridge or freezer.

Mo also seemed to prefer Untamed over KatKin – the portion size suited Mo and there was less waste with Untamed than KatKin.

So the cat owners opted for KatKin but the cat opted for Untamed!

Our cat has always been on Katkin from his breeders. We have had him over 6 months now. He eats well, his coat is beautiful, and his waste doesn’t smell bad. The customized meal plans are tailored to my cat’s specific needs and preferences, ensuring he receives the right nutrients in every meal. Untamed have a far superior score on Trustpilot, receiving 4.8 stars based upon 1,000 reviews.

Tempeste believes Untamed’s cat food is unparalled.

Percy has traditionally been quite a fussy eater. Until Untamed. He loves it – particularly the tuna variations, so it’s great that we can tailor his box to include lots of fish! The food looks and smells super fresh – quite honestly, it looks much nicer than the tuna you get in a can sold for human consumption! We’ve only been getting Untamed for a couple of months but so far, each new month’s box has arrived with perfect timing. We’re impressed.

Jonathon explained that Untamed looks fresh and his cat loves the food.

I’ve really liked what Untamed offer and so does my cat Simpson! It’s quite clear as soon as you open the can it is very high quality meat and freshly canned. My cat is a grazer and will want to come back later rather gobble down straight away. The food stays fresh and appetizing but the main point is the peace of mind that your cat is eating best food possible rather indeterminate rubbish.

Anything Else To Consider?

It’s a good idea to speak to your vet before you decide to make a change to your cat’s diet. It’s important to slowly transition your feline friend to their new meals. KatKin and Untamed provide information in your first delivery box on how to successfully transition to their food.
