What is iRobot Roomba s9+ vacuum?

iRobot’s website proudly declares that the Roomba s9+ is the world’s best robot vacuum.

The s9+ robot vacuum has a suite of groundbreaking technology built into a brand-new design, cleans close into corners and along edges, maps your home, and empties on its own.

iRobot go on to claim that the Roomba s9+ is the company’s smartest, most powerful robot vacuum.

Not only can this Roomba model clean your home while you’re out but remarkably it empties its own bin so you don’t have to worry about vacuuming.

You won’t be surprised to learn that the Roomba s9+ costs a premium price given the premium features incorporated in iRobot’s latest offering.

iRobot’s website says the High-Efficiency Filter is made from a special material that traps 99% of mold, pollen, and dust mite allergens. Shedding pets are also no match for the tangle free rubber brushes.

That’s a brief synopsis of the Roomba s9+ but let’s look at the design, technology and performance in a little closer detail.

If you’re familiar with iRobot’s previous Roomba models, you’ll notice that a couple of big differences with the s9+ series.

The Roomba s9+ is shaped in a d-shape rather than the traditional circle that we saw with Roomba i7 and Roomba e5 models.

It has a large matte gold circle disk on top surrounded by black material to form the d-shape that is unlike what we’ve seen previously with iRobot.

Another notable change is the location of the clean button. If you’ve previously owned a Roomba vacuum, you’ll notice the clean button is at the top right of the s9+ device rather than in the middle of the central disk.

The other controls are located closer to the straight edge of the d-shaped vacuum.

Underneath the Roomba model is a green brush roll, the spinning brush is located on the right side.

The Roomba s9+ comes with a CleanBase. It has an automatic dustbin emptying technology, which is incorporated into the charging base.

Given this is iRobot’s latest offering in the vacuum cleaner market, it has some technological advancements as you’d expect.

The Roomba s9+ has PerfectEdge Technology which has advanced sensors as well as a Corner Brush to optimize cleaning deep in corners and along edges.

It has nifty sounding vSLAM navigation technology. What this does is gather 230,400 data points to create a unique map of your home.

Imprint Smart Mapping gives the Roomba s9+ series the ability to “learn, map and adapt to your home”. In doing so, you’ll be able to control which rooms are cleaned.

CleanBase allows for automatic dirt disposal. The iRoomba can empty the bin on its own, which their website claims means you won’t have to think about vacuuming for weeks at a time.

The Anti-Allergen Technology Systems captures and traps 99 per cent of pollen and mold allergens.

Ease of Use

Unlike other pet vacuum cleaners that we’ve reviewed, you won’t have to worry about getting your hoover out to clean the home.

Instead, you can access the iRobot app to schedule and start a cleaning session.

You can also control the iRobot Roomba s9+ vacuum cleaner by voice control using technology such as Amazon Alexa.

There’s no need to worry about your Roomba running out of battery. It’ll return to the base and recharge when it runs out of juice.

Customer Reviews

Roomba s9+ has an average rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars based upon 72 reviews on iRobot’s website. On online retailer Amazon, 82 testimonials have given the s9+ a slightly lower rating of 3.3 stars out of 5.

One Amazon customer was pleased with the performance of the iRobot’s Roomba s9+:

As for the machine itself, it does a really good job cleaning. The power is not what you’ll get from a regular push vacuum, but I have found that to be the case will all roomba-type vacuums I’ve encountered. We have 2 cats and 1 dog so lots of hair and the floor looks great after the iRobot is complete.

Another Amazon user was delighted with the vacuum’s ability to clean her German Shepherd’s hair but admitted the price was questionable:

My couches sit fairly high off the floor and the Roomba went right under them no problem. That is so great as I have a German Shepard and her hair is EVERYWHERE!!! She will test this little irobot thats for sure. This roomba is two times quieter than my Shark vacuum IMO. And it does as good of a job getting the dog hair up off the carpet with no effort on my part.

Finally, another reviewer compared the Roomba to an unnamed device – and their only qualm was the price difference:

Both the Roomba s9+ and the competitor can occasionally get clogged up by dog hair, unfortunately since we have a wooly mammoth – er, I mean a German Shepard – that sheds constantly. So overall the Roomba S9+ is an excellent device, and delivers on all points better than the competitor that I was using. However, it is also 4 times the price of said competitor. The dog hair clogging issue and price caused me to drop the rating from 5 stars to 4.

The iRobot Roomba s9+ is priced at $1,099.99 on their website. If you want to the CleanBase Automatic Dirt Disposal, it’ll set you back an additional $300.

Any negatives?

The biggest negative is the price. The Roomba s9+ won’t fit everyone’s budget.

It’s definitely a premium product but if you value your time, it may be worth the investment as you won’t spend as much time cleaning your home.

Is this the best pet vacuum cleaner?

We really like the iRobot Roomba s9+ given it takes away the hassle of having to clean your home multiple times a week if you’ve got a shedding dog.

The Roomba s9+ is one of our top rated models, especially for pet parents with particularly busy lives and the budget to spend on the device.

Anything else to consider?

Like we mentioned above, the base price of £1099.99 doesn’t include the Clean Base.

If you want to avail of the Roomba s9+’s ability to self empty, you’ll need to dig a little deeper into your pockets.

Wrapping up – our final thoughts

So there you have it, we’ve reached the end of our review of the iRobot Roomba s9+ vacuum cleaner.

It has a lot of advanced technology to make your life a little easier.

For pet parents who struggle to find time to clean their home, especially with a shedding dog, this device could be a life saver.

However, it’s a premium product so it costs a lot of money. The Roomba s9+ cleaner won’t fit the budget of all cat and dog owners.
