The Mini Goldendoodle is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Miniature Poodle. While this hybrid is commonly referred to as a Mini Goldendoodle, they can also be called Mini Goldenpoo or Miniature Goldenoodle. They aren’t recognised by the American Kennel Club or the Kennel Club in the United Kingdom but they have been granted status by the Dog Registry of America, Goldendoodle Association of North America and Goldendoodle Registry.

The Cockapoo is a mix between a Cocker Spaniel and a Miniature Poodle. They can also be called a Cockapoodle and a Cock-a-Poo. Neither the American Kennel Club nor the Kennel Club in the UK recognise the Cockapoo but this energetic mix breed have been granted status by the American Cockapoo Club, American Canine Hybrid Club, Cockapoo Club of America, Cockapoo Club of GB, Designer Dogs Kennel Club, Dog Registry of America, International Designer Canine Registry, Designer Breed Registry and North American Cockapoo Registry.

The Goldendoodle originated in the 1990s when Golden Retrievers were combined with Poodles to create an eager-to-please, intelligent and low-shedding dog. The idea was to create a service dog with hypoallergenic qualities so they could help people with disabilities or service needs but with allergies to dogs. As we entered the new century, Mini Goldendoodles became increasingly popular as dog lovers looked for a canine with a low-shedding coat in a smaller package than a Standard Goldendoodle.

Cockapoos are thought to have first originated in 1960s but they didn’t soar in popularity until the 1990s and 2000s. Their increasing popularity can be identified by the fact that The Cockapoo Club of America was founded in 1998 by Mary D Foley before the American Cockapoo Club was formed in 2004. Their popularity has resulted in an increase in price. According to Country Living, the Cockapoo is one of the 25 most-expensive dog breeds in the UK with an average price of £1,336.15 (which is a 168% increase between 2019 and 2020).

Mini Goldendoodles will be smaller than the Standard Goldendoodle. They’ll usually grow to a height between 13 and 17 inches and weigh between 15 to 35 pounds. The Cockapoo can range in height from 10 inches to 15 inches and weigh between 6 and 18 pounds.

Mini Goldendoodles will have physical traits that they’ve inherited from both the Golden Retriever and the Poodle. They’re often compared to teddy bears in terms of appearance, with brown eyes, a black nose and cream-coloured coat. Their most popular coat color is cream or apricot but they can also be black, brown, red, chocolate or white. Their coat will usually be curly or wavy.

Cockapoo have a round head with floppy ears that hang down over their faces. They’ll usually have dark, puppy-like eyes under extremely bushy eyebrows. Their beautiful coats are one of the standout features of the breed. They’ve got a good centre of gravity as small dogs with a stout build. Their coat will usually be curly or wavy much like the Mini Goldendoodle. The Cockapoo coat colors range from black, white, apricot, chocolate, red and white. You can also find Cockapoos with parti, phantom, sable, tri-color, merle and roan coats.

Mini Goldendoodles tend to have a consistent, dependable and loving temperaments seeing as these dogs often function as service dogs for those in need. They’re affectionate and caring dogs who are eager to please their owners. Mini Goldendoodles are energetic and playful so they’ll enjoy a good romp at the dog park or in the garden with dog or human friends. Mini Goldendoodles are the result of breeding between two of the smartest dogs in the world so the hybrid breed will be extremely intelligent and easy to train.

Cockapoo are a bit more bouncy and energetic than the Mini Goldendoodle. They’re a fun-loving pet that have an affectionate and cuddly side too. Mini Goldendoodles are an active breed that will require regular daily exercise. Every Mini Goldendoodle will be different but they’ll usually require around 60 minutes of exercise a day. This could take the form of daily walks, a jog with their owner, playtime in the garden, a trip to the dog park or a training session. Mini Goldendoodles like to have a task to perform so training is a good way to keep their brains and their legs exercised.

Cockapoos are high energy dogs that have substantial exercise needs to prevent boredom and destructive behaviours. They’ll need sufficient physical and mental exercise. Like the Mini Goldendoodle, you can exercise your Cockapoo with walks, runs, playtime, training sessions and the dog park. As an agile cross breed, Cockapoo can excel at agility, sports and water sports for dogs.

The Mini Goldendoodle and the Cockapoo are both examples of hypoallergenic dog breeds. The Poodle parent will usually result in a Mini Goldendoodle and a Cockapoo having a low-shedding coat that doesn’t produce a lot of dander. However, there’s no guarantee that a Mini Goldendoodle or Cockapoo will be 100% hypoallergenic so this is something to keep in mind.

Which Is More Hypoallergenic Mini Goldendoodle Or Cockapoo?

There’s no such thing as a completely hypoallergenic dog. While Mini Goldendoodles and Cockapoos may be low shedding and produce little dander, their salvia or urine could still trigger an allergic reaction. They could also bring in allergens such as pollen on their coat from outside.

It’s important to note that second and third generation Mini Goldendoodles and Cockapoos will likely be more hypoallergenic than first generation Mini Goldendoodles or Cockapoo. A second or third generation Mini Goldendoodle or Cockapoo are more hypoallergenic because a Mini Goldendoodle or Cockapoo will be bred with Poodle to increase the chances of the second generation pup being more hypoallergenic.

As we’ve already touched upon, the Mini Goldendoodle and the Cockapoo are low-shedding dogs. They should shed minimally if at all. So you won’t have to deal with a lot of dog hair if you decide to bring home a Mini Goldendoodle or a Cockapoo. Having said that, they’ll require regular grooming, haircuts and trips to a professional groomer.

Mini Goldendoodles will usually cost around $1,000 to $5,000 (£870 to £4300). Cockapoos will cost between $900 (£700) to $2,500 (£1900) with an average price of £1,336.15 ($1,526) for a puppy.

However, it’s worth remembering that it can vary depending on each individual breeder who may charge more for coat color or based upon the lineage of the parents.
