If you’re looking to book a trip to Edinburgh for you and your pup, you’ll need to find suitable accommodation.

The good news is the Scottish capital is dog friendly, so there’s no shortage of options.

In our experience, location is important to have a smooth and stress-free experience when travelling with your pet.

Princes Street Suites in Edinburgh is dog friendly and located right next to the Waverley train station.

We spent a weekend at this stylish city centre location with our two Alaskan Klee Kai Copper and Skye.

Here’s our review of Princes Street Suites.

What is Princes Street Suites?

Princes Street Suites offer modern apartments in the heart of Edinburgh’s city centre.

They provide spacious living space for you and your canine companions. This includes bedrooms, living and dining areas as well as a well-equipped bathroom.

Dog owners can avail of their roof terrace for great views of the city as you and your pooch get some refreshing air.

Princes Street Suites is located next to Calton Hill, which is a great location to take your dog for an early morning or late evening walk.

Other Edinburgh landmarks such as Edinburgh Castle and The Royal Mile are all located within walking distance with many dog-friendly eateries to stop on the way.

As we mentioned above, Waverley Train Station is located a brief two minute walk from Princes Street Suites. So you won’t have far to walk your dog and carry your luggage before you can put your feet up.

Our verdict

We were pleasantly surprised by how close Princes Street Suites was to the train station. Having travelled by overnight train, it was a big convenience to walk a couple of minutes to the station.

Upon arrival at 07.30am, we were able to drop our bags off before getting some directions to start our Edinburgh adventure. After a morning of exploring, we got the call at midday to tell us our room was ready.

The receptionist Frances was thrilled to meet our two dogs, which certainly made Copper and Skye feel comfortable in their new surroundings. Frances, who told us about her 14-year-old Shih Tzu, was a great ambassador for this dog-friendly location.

We had a spacious two-bed apartment with lots of space for the dogs to roam. There was so much room that our Alaskan Klee Kai were worn out exploring the new smells in all the rooms.

Princes Street Suites provided us with two dog beds, dog bowls and blankets for Copper and Skye, which was a lovely touch. They loved their dog beds – so much so that we may have to think about changing their dog bed at home.

The room had beautiful views of the Scottish capital and our dogs loved standing by the window watching the people on the streets below. We were able to enjoy the breathtaking location from all three rooms.

We were on the fourth floor with easy access to the roof terrace. We used this feature to let the dogs get some air without the hassle of having to go down and tackle the hustle and bustle of the weekend foot traffic outside.

When it came to bedtime, we were able to move the dog beds from the living room to the bedroom, which was very spacious.

Overall, we found Princes Street Suites to be the perfect accommodation for our weekend in Edinburgh. They epitomised what we felt was one of the most dog-friendly cities we’ve visited in the UK and the USA.

We had a great experience in Edinburgh – and Princes Street Suites played a big part in our superb weekend getaway.

Their staff’s approach from the moment we arrived was to embrace our dogs, which made us feel comfortable and relaxed.

They provided little touches in the room to underline their dog-friendly attitude, helping us to feed our dogs and allow them to enjoy some downtime after a day of exploring.

The spacious apartment provided our dogs with lots of room to play with their toys that we packed.

By the end of our stay, Copper and Skye felt so relaxed and at home, they didn’t blink an eye as we packed our luggage to leave. That is the biggest compliment we can pay to Princes Street Suites.
