The Bernedoodle is fast becoming one of the most popular cross breeds.

The Bernedoodle cross breed is a mix between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle.

The result is an affectionate, friendly, energetic and intelligent dog that can thrive in a family setting.

Bernedoodles can have hypoallergenic qualities thanks to their Poodle parent.

While the Bernedoodle isn’t recognised by the American Kennel Club or United Kennel Club, they’ve been granted status by American Canine Hybrid Club, Dog Registry of America and International Designer Canine Registry.

We can get a glimpse of the popularity of this designer dog breed when you head to social media in search of more information and photos of these wonderful hybrid dogs.

Bernedoodles will combine personality traits of both the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle. It’s important to remember that every dog is different and that’s especially true of cross breeds such as Bernedoodles.

Kenzie The Bernedoodle

Bernedoodles are very cuddly and great with people including kids. They love to be close to you and are very loyal. They are even-tempered and not aggressive.

Dennis The Bernedoodle

They are spectacular family dogs, and are usually very easy-going and patient with children. Dennis loves to play with our young nieces and nephew.

Brody the Bernedoodle

Bernedoodles are great family dogs. They are sweet and loving towards everybody in the family.

Chewy the Bernedoodle

I believe yes, although it’s only my husband and me. I think a family with kids would be amazing for Bernedoodles because they are loving and super cuddle dogs and energetics.

Rolo the Bernedoodle

From what I have seen, yes. It is all about the socialization and being properly introduced to kids of different ages. They are overall gentle and friendly dogs and don’t generally have problems meeting new people. However, because of their stubbornness, I would advise families with children to be cautious of their Bernedoodle taking advantage of the younger kids in the home, as they know who is and who isn’t their leader.

They are the perfect family dog – sweet-natured, affectionate, kid-friendly and snuggle buddies. They are absolutely gentle around children.

Are Bernedoodles Good Dogs For First-Time Owners?

If you’re thinking of a Berendoodle as your first dog, you’re probably curious to learn whether they’re a challenging breed to own for inexperienced owners.

You should think carefully before you decide to get a dog and whether you’ve got the financial bandwidth to pay for the monthly costs of owning a dog, especially a breed like the Bernedoodle that will require some professional grooming.

Bernedoodles are active dogs that will need plenty of mental and physical stimulation. Dog owners who work office jobs might need to avail of a dog walker or doggie day care to ensure their Bernedoodle’s needs are met when they’re at work.

We asked our Bernedoodle owners to give their perspective on whether this lovable designer breed is suitable for inexperienced dog owners.

Saban’s parents warned that training can require some patience but overall they’re wonderful dogs for a first-time dog owner.

It’s definitely not the easiest dog to train, but they have the absolute BEST personalities which make it so worth it. Super super friendly and straight forward dogs. As long as you have the time and room for a big dog then I would say go for it!

Vicky didn’t hesistate to put forward the Bernedoodle cross breed as an ideal pup for dog lovers with limited experience of owning a dog given Eevee was her first canine companion!

Our Bernedoodle was our first dog for me and my boyfriend! (we were both raised with dogs in our family so we are use to having dogs around). Eevee is so sweet and really chill! We live in the city in a small apartment and she’s super happy! If you raise you dog well and train them good Bernedoodles can be great first time dog owner! Also yes Eevee love to cuddle! Younger she wouldn’t cuddle much with us but now she always has to be on top of us; she’s the biggest lap dog! But because she gets hot easily she usually don’t cuddle for too long (which is good because she’s getting really heavy)
